Animal Interactions

The most popular and prolific area for seeing all whale and dolphin species is in Caribbean waters a few miles from the northeastern corner of Basse-Terre Island. More than 20 species of whales and dolphins are seen all around the Guadeloupe Islands, and waters on the Atlantic side provide seasonal sightings for larger whales.

Cultural Activities

Guadeloupe is actually a collection of islands, each with a distinct personality. The bustling townships and fields of Grande-Terre are contrasted by the forest-clad mountains of Basse-Terre. Iles des Saintes is a collection of postcard-perfect harbors and beaches, while quiet Marie-Galante is a reminder of the Caribbean of yesteryear.

Hiking

The Guadeloupe Islands offer an astounding variety of environments and as a result of numerous waymarked hiking trails for all levels. Walking paths can be found on each of the islands of Guadeloupe, but the best hiking trails lie within the 65-square-mile boundaries of Guadeloupe's national park on Basse-Terre.

Offroading

The majority of offroading in Guadeloupe takes place in the hills of Basse-Terre Island, both in a national park and on dirt tracks through nearby agricultural lands and forests. Some routes ascend the slopes of La Grande Soufrière, an active volcano that is the highest peak in the Lesser Antilles.

Paddle Sports

Most kayak and paddle boat activity takes place in around the Pigeon Islands and in the sheltered bay known as Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin, which is located on the northern coast of Basse-Terre and the west coast of Grande-Terre islands.

Snorkeling

There are a number of areas around the Guadeloupe Islands that offer good snorkeling. The best sites are found near a pair of small islands in the Petit Terre Nature Reserve, which can be reached with a six-mile boat trip from the town of  Saint-François on Grande-Terre.

Ziplining

Guadeloupe's adventure parks are located on the western and northern coasts of Basse-Terre near the island's expansive national forest preserve. This area's steep and heavily wooded terrain is an ideal setting for suspended rope courses and ziplines.
